Manly – A Ferry Ride from Sydney

This is a must-do if you’re ever in Sydney. First, the ferry ride across the harbor is a really beautiful look at the Opera House from different angles, further proving it’s not humanly possible to get tired of looking at it.

Once you dock in Manly, the port guides you toward the corso (boardwalk) to Manly Beach.  The boardwalk is a classic set up, wide wood plank walkway with benches and fountains down the middle and shops on each side. Plenty of fish and chip options and cool beachy clothing boutiques. We went to Hotel Steyne because it was right off the beach and they have a 2-for-1 dinner deal on Mondays. Lucky us, it was a Monday. Walk a little further off the boardwalk and you can slip your toes into the sand of Manly Beach.

If you’re standing on Manly Beach and you look to the right, you’ll see a paved path that will lead you to Shelly Beach. Go There. I wish I was there right now as I’m writing this. A dream of a beach. It’s quite small, but has beautiful clear waters that are great for snorkeling and a quieter environment that is perfect for relaxing. We caught the sunset from the pier, then headed home. We were so impressed we went back the following week.

For our second visit to Manly we basically repeated everything we did before, but we took a recommendation from a local and went to Collins Beach for the sunset. It was about a 25 min walk but definitely worth it. Only two other groups were on the beach with us. If you want romance, this is your spot.

Goodbye for now, Manly XOXO

On the return trip you’ll see some gorgeous night-time views of the Opera House.
