Settling Into Italy

Heading into April means we are 1/4 done with our adventure (Noooo too fast!) and hellooooo, Italy!

Kevin and I went to a few cities in Northern Italy for our honeymoon and we could not wait to get back. Spending time in Italy this year was part of the plan from the very beginning. We chose to stay in Salerno, Italy. Salerno is on the Southern end of the Amalfi Coast and we’re mentally preparing ourselves for the some amazing seafood and sea-views.

We arrived at the Naples airport and opted to take the train to Salerno instead of spending time in the city that day. We have all our bags and we’re pretty tired from the leaving the apartment at 4 a.m.  We’ll come back another day.

First impression?  Salerno is a beautiful city.

We had arrived around 3 p.m., and walked right into the daily shut-down that happens here. Everything closes for about 3 hours in the afternoon. We were starving from our long day of travel and a bit confused by all the restaurants, and even the grocery store, being closed. I’m ashamed to admit, the only places serving food were fast food, Kevin and I had Burger King as our first meal in Italy. Never would have predicted that one!

Later in the evening the crowds came out and the city was very much alive. It felt so good to be walking along is the picturesque narrow cobblestone streets with laundry drying overhead. Luckily, we found it was pretty easy to get our bearings here. Parallel to the water is the main street in town, then two blocks over is the waterfront. You can always find one or the other and make your way home from there. And our home was pretty dang cute.
