Rugby Game and Olympic Park

We were disappointed when we didn’t get a chance to see some rugby in New Zealand. Luckily, we found an opportunity while we were in Sydney and jumped on it. A charity match between two local rivals, the Sydney Rabbitohs vs. the St.George Illawara Dragons, was a great afternoon and a surprisingly physical rugby match. A fight almost broke out on the field! Also, a charity match doesn’t have the usual crowd, so we ended up with front row seats. Score! Or should I say “try!”

what a great game and an awesome afternoon

A home game for the Rabbitohs, the match was held at ANZ Stadium in Sydney’s Olympic Park. We went to the game a little early to see the torch from the 2000 Summer Olympic games. During the opening ceremony the lighting was really dramatic, click here to see the video in case you forgot (starts at the 0:50 mark).

Near the torch was a large ladder sculpture, The Attractor. It is a symbolizes athletes and the human endeavor to ascend to new heights and surpass limitations. Quite lovely, no?

There she blows
