G’Day, Sydney

We’re in Australia…Sydney, Australia! Just a little childhood dream coming true, no big deal.

We landed on a Monday so we didn’t have the pleasure of an immediate weekend like when we landed in Auckland.  We had a little time during the week to explore our neighborhood, Darlinghurst, but waited until Saturday to go downtown and see some of the most highly touted sights.

Our apartment near Kings Cross train station was only a 40 minute walk to the famed Ms.Macquarie’s Chair, where we got a spectacular view of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. We charted our path so we also hit Hyde Park, Pitt Street, and Royal Botanic Gardens.  Hyde park is the oldest park in Sydney, and the Archibald fountain is a sight to behold.  Pitt Street is a vehicle-free few blocks with shopping, buskers, and side street markets that are fun for any visitor. The Royal Botanic Gardens cover the a large area that wraps the harbor between Mrs. Macquarie’s chair and the Opera House.  It makes the walk between the two a well landscaped experience.

It was a hot and sunny day, but our sunscreen game was on point (lesson learned from the New Zealand scorch-fest) and had we had no problem walking all day. We managed to see everything we planned.  I’ll try and spare you boring details and just show you some lovely pictures. 🙂

Spider in the Royal Botanic Gardens (this kinda messed me up…I had to sleep with the covers over my head for a few days so it didn’t, I dunno, climb in my mouth or whatever freaky stuff spiders do.) That web pattern!
